150 GENERAL BUSINESS 1 CREDIT

GENERAL BUSINESS is open mainly to freshmen and sophomores but may be taken by upperclassmen with permission. This course is designed to provide the students with an understanding of how our business system works and to provide the knowledge for them to become intelligent users of the goods and services provided in our economic system. Some of the areas covered are business principles, career planning, becoming a wise consumer, money management, banking, using credit, insurance, saving, and investing.

250 APPLIED BUSINESS LAW 1 CREDIT

APPLIED BUSINESS LAW introduces the basic legal principles of criminal, civil. and contractual law. The course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of how the United States Constitution, the Amendments, and ethics have shaped our legal system. Hypothetical legal situations, discussion, and actual court cases are used to explain concepts. Each year the class participates in a "mock trial' in which the students serve as defendants, attorneys, judge, jury and witnesses for the various parts of the case.

355 ACCOUNTING I 1 CREDIT

ACCOUNTING I introduces students to the language of business: accounting. Students learn basic bookkeeping principles including: (1) bookkeeping cycle in simple form starting with the source documents and carrying the transaction through various accounts and through the financial statements, (2) fundamental bookkeeping equation, (3) advanced bookkeeping cycle with special journals and subsidiary ledgers, (4) bookkeeping cycle using combination journal and special bookkeeping problems such as taxes, depreciation disposition of fixed assets, bad debts and accounts receivable.

455 ACCOUNTING I I 1 CREDIT

ACCOUNTING II continues from Accounting I with emphasis on Partnerships, Automated Accounting, Corporate and Cost Accounting.

Prerequisite: Accounting I

424 BUSINESS MATH 1 CREDIT (This course counts toward a Math credit for graduation)

BUSINESS MATH is open to students in grades 11 and 12 only. This course is for students who have had a difficult time with math and while it fulfills the third math requirement for St. Johns students it is not considered a college prep math. Business Math offers an emphasis on technical preparation with applications to prepare students for life and work.
